We are 2nd Platoon/ Charlie Company/ 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion/ 2nd Brigade Combat Team/ 1st Cavalry Division. If you want to shorten it, we are 2nd Platoon Engineers from 2BCT, 1st Cav. Our company supports the entire Brigade and all of our platoons have gotten spread out over Afghanistan during this deployment. We have moved around the country a good deal since July but are currently stationed in Ghazni, Afghanistan. It has been a rough deployment, many of our soldiers have been wounded and we have had one KIA as well. Some of the guys in these photos are no longer with us. Our job is to perform Route Clearance, searching for IED's. We use specialized vehicles such as the ones shown in the photos. We also put soldiers on the ground using specialized mine and IED detection equipment. The vehicle that I am in charge of is the "Buffalo" (the huge one with the claw-arm), it's a special purpose vehicle used to discover and "interrogate" IED's. We deliberately drive up to suspected IED's and mess with them. I wish I could send some of the cooler photos and videos that I have of bombs and stuff going off but I am not allowed to do that...bummer. Generally, anything that involves demolition and explosives in the region, we are the guys that are on the job. In the ongoing feud between the Infantry and the Engineers, I'm going to have to throw in "Engineers Lead The Way!"
