Grace Shayler is part of the Blue Cross National Equine Health Survey (NEHS) Team. Horses of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment have led the way by being the first to undertake the Blue Cross National Equine Health Survey (NEHS). By beginning the survey with HCMR at Hyde Park Barracks, the Blue Cross hopes to raise awareness of the importance of the survey, which is an online snapshot of common health issues in horse. It helps to plot them geographically to pinpoint trends, and is designed to be completed by horse owners themselves. It runs from 5 - 11 May 2013 and all horse owners are encouraged to take part. Results will help build a national picture of horse health and disease in the UK and define the priorities for future research, training and education, from which all horses and their owners can benefit. "It's great to be involved in an initiative that promotes horse health," said Major Anne O'Flynn Veterinary Officer for the HCMR. The Cavalry Black horses are on duty every day of the year, and as a major tourist attraction in their own right as they mount the Queen's Life Guard at Horse Guards Parade, the horses are always expected to set the highest standards of horse health and appearance.
