Basically, we were a four man advisor team that was deployed to Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion 4th Marines "Magnificent Bastards" to serve as a liaison between the Marines and the Afghan National Army, as well as teach them basic infantry tactics. I was the team Corpsman (Medic) and I basically did a bit of the infantry teachings as well as a lot of medical. Serving as the primary care provider for 104 Afghans was no easy task, thankfully we had at the main Combat Outpost a few other medical providers (Paramedic equivalent) and one Physician's Assistant equivalent. We ended up doing just around seven and a half months out there and overall it was a very awesome experience. My Captain stepped on an IED in late December during an operation we were conducting and lost his leg just below the knee. I was the first responder on scene for that one as I was only ten feet away from the initial blast when it happened. He has since gotten out of the Military (Along with everyone on that team) and he just recently ran the Kona Iron Man.

About 6 months ago you posted a photo of my youngest daughter saying bye to her daddy, who was leaving for a deployment. I'm happy to say that he is back! I thought I'd share with you the photos of the homecoming. I'm also including a couple of the departing. We are all just happy to have our Airmen back in time for the holidays.

I'm a Sgt in the Marine  Corps, one of my brothers is a Navy Corpsman,  our youngest brothers, twins,  play football at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.  In the championship game of their senior year, the college had a "Senior ceremony"  in which players can walk out from the endzone  to the fifty yard line.  Our parents,  oldest brother ( there are 5 of us)  sister in law and nephew all walked out with our two youngest brothers.  THEN  the magic happened.  Just as they were nearing the fifty yard line, the announcer said their names and our parents, brother's, sister-in-law's, and nephew's names, and then said "Also being surprised by their brothers, US Marine Sergeant Joseph Diomede and US Navy Corpsman Chris Diomede!!" me and my brother who's the corpsman walked out from the other end zone.  They collapsed in sheer disbelief and joy.  The picture says  it all.  Possibly the happiest,  proudest moment of my life.

Looking back on a WW2 work-horse the Tambor Class sub (50 HQ Photos)

The Tambor "T" Class was built from 1939-1941and was similar to it's predecessor Sargo Class…but it had one improvement, it had 6 forward torpedo tubes. It would be succeeded by the Gato Class sub, but it battled against the hardened U-Boats during WW2.
